Former Special Prosecutor, Martin B.K Amidu has alleged that President Akufo-Addo ordered the Office of the Attorney General to stop the planned prosecution of Members of Parliament who allegedly received double salaries.

In 2018, a number of MPs who served in the John Dramani Mahama administration were fingered of taking double salaries.

The alleged MPs including Ellembelle MP, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, former Kpone Katamanso MP, Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo, former Tamale Central MP, Inusah Fuseini, Ada MP, Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe-Ghansah, and former Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Eric Opoku were all lined up for prosecution.

Shockingly, the issue died down and was never attended to.

In the latest epistle from Martin Amidu, the former Special Prosecutor has made some revelations on the matter as he seeks to make it clear that his office never handled the case of the MPs taking double salaries.

According to him, although the Attorney General managed to build against the said MPs, the case did not get to court after President Akufo-Addo instructed the office not to do so.

“The credible information I received on the case is and was that the then-Attorney General and the Director of Public Prosecutions had both perused the case docket and had come to the conclusion that charges be filed against some of the suspects for prosecution,” part of the latest piece from Martin Amidu reads.

It continues, “The Attorney General was instructed not to do so by the President who unconstitutionally usurped the investigatory and prosecutorial constitutional authority of the Attorney General on the grounds of political expediency of having the suspects agreeable to ‘play ball’ in Parliament for government.”

Meanwhile, Martin Amidu has also alleged that President Akufo-Addo leveraged the double salary MPs to negotiate Ministerial appointment approvals.
