The Atebubu-Amantin municipal chief executive Hon. Edward Owusu has debunked a number of allegations made against him by some members of the New Patriotic Party in the Atebubu-Amantin constituency culminating in a call on President Nana Ado-Dankwa Akuffo Addo not to re-nominate him for a second term.
Speaking on the Tuesday morning show on the local Atoobu 101.1 FM hosted by Dinseye Reuben, Hon. Edward Owusu refuted the assertion that he has underperformed as MCE and catalogued a number of achievements under his tenure in the last 4 years.
He enumerated specific achievements in the application of the district assembly common fund, the district development fund and internally generated funds.
The MCE mentioned among others, the construction and furnishing of a 40-bed capacity female ward and pavilion at the Atebubu government hospital, the completion of an office for the National Health Insurance Authority, rehabilitation of offices for the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, and the rehabilitation of the Atebubu main market.
He also touched on the about 92% complete dual circuit and high court buildings among others using internally generated funds a feat he described as unprecedented in the history of the municipality.
Hon. Edward Owusu described as absurd allegations that he has amassed wealth using his office adding that his status as a successful businessman is not new to anybody in the municipality.
On the issue of not doing much to support the campaign of the party in the December 2020 general election, the MCE said he personally recalled his sprinter bus and branded it in the colors of the party for use in the constituency in addition to 2 brand new pick-up vehicles 14 motor-bikes, 32 bicycles and other paraphernalia in addition to financial resources he put at the disposal of the party.
He said he was constantly on the campaign trail sometimes riding on motorbikes to hard-to-reach areas and wondered how anyone could claim he did little to help the course of the then Member of Parliament for the constituency and Bono East regional minister Hon. Kofi Amoakohene.
He gave a rundown of beneficiaries of some contracts in the municipality including the school feeding program to douse the assertion that he has usurped various contracts to the detriment of party executives and other members in the constituency.
The MCE recounted testimonies of traditional authorities, the former Brong Ahafo regional minister Hon. Evan Opoku Bobie and the fall-outs of the maiden Bono East regional town hall meeting in Techiman in 2019 as attestations of good work done under his administration and expressed the confidence that the President will re-nominate him for confirmation in order for him to continue with his good works.
The Atebubu traditional council, the Zongo Chief of Atebubu, and the municipal chief Imam, last week called on the President to re-nominate Hon. Edward Owusu for the position of MCE in order to extend his mandate due to hard work.
