I am not proud of Ghana. And you cannot be proud either.
You cannot be proud of the poor dying of diseases when our leaders fly outside for health care.
You cannot be proud of “Dumsor” when we’ve had electricity for over fifty years.
You cannot be proud of the unemployed graduates struggling to find a career.
You cannot be proud of the police officers extorting from their own countrymen.
You cannot be proud of the hours it takes to travel on a muddy road to a town denied of basic amenities.
You cannot be proud of the conditions of our village schools. You cannot be proud of the leaders we’ve had and you can certainly not be proud of the ones have.
You think you are proud of the country, you tell yourself everyday “that I’m a proud Ghanaian”.
You’ve said this so many times but when you try to point to the things that makes you proud, you realize that there is nothing to point to.
If we are proud of the country, why then do we flee for greener pastures in other countries?
Why do we help our family and friends to get out of the country?
Why do we have our hope set on other countries and not Ghana?
Are we not proud enough?
We desire for pride.
We take pride in our history.
We compare ourselves to the lower performing countries to feel proud.
Ghana remains our home
We are proud Ghanaians.
We choose pride over inferiority
It is with our pride that we get through the worst and still remain whole.
