The National Democratic Congress (NDC) fire brand, Dr Tony Aidoo, has welcomed America's move to inject over 500 million dollars into the Ghanaian economy under the Millenium Challenge Account (MCA) Programme over the next five years.
But the former Deputy Defense Minister under the NDC rule has also attacked the United States of America for claiming that the grant was to reward Ghana for her good governance credentials.
Ghana is among 16 other African countries selected to participate in the MCA programme based on her record achievement in governance, economic freedom and human resource development.
But, citing America's military operations in Afghanistan, Iraq and other parts of the world, the former Deputy Defense Minister told CITI NEWS that Washington has no moral authority to reward the Gold-and-Cocoa-rich West African State for her so-called good governance credentials.
President Kufuor has vowed to follow the MCA programme with a hawk's eye to ensure that the 547 million dollar grant is judiciously used.
However, Dr Tony Aidoo told CITI NEWS that he believes that given the government's apparent lack of commitment to fighting corruption in the country, possibilities are high that a huge chunk of the 547 million dollar grant would go into the wrong hands
