I have the gift of prophecy — Sister Afia

Prominent Ghanaian highlife, Afro-pop, and Afrobeat artist Sista Afia, born Francisca Gawugah, has revealed that she believes she has the gift of seeing future events, claiming she has had this ability since childhood.

Speaking on Asempa FM, Sista Afia said her parents can testify to her experiences and that she considers the ability a “third eye.”

“I have had this gift since I was a child, and my parents can testify to this. I can probably say that I have a third eye,” she stated.

She recounted an incident from when she was about seven years old in which she said she had previously dreamt about a car accident that she and her family later experienced at Akosombo.

“When we were having the accident, I was sort of asleep because I was remembering that I had dreamt of that particular accident,” she recalled.

According to Sister Afia, the vehicle was being driven by a drunk driver who eventually handed control of the car to her brother, OneLove, who was about 11 years old at the time.

She said another experience occurred when one of her elder brothers was attending Mfantsipim School.

“I had a dream that he was very sick and he had beriberi, and the next day, he was at home,” she said.

Although she said her brother was not necessarily suffering from the illness she had seen in the dream, she regarded his unexpected return home as another experience that strengthened her belief in the ability.

Sister Afia said her father has encouraged her to develop the gift further, but she has chosen not to commercialise it.

“My parents, especially my father, have always wanted me to develop it fully, but I use it not for collecting money but for protecting myself, friends and family,” she stated.

She said she continues to regard the ability as something she uses primarily to protect herself and people close to her rather than as a source of income.
