ECG to disconnect customers with unpaid bills in 18-day nationwide revenue mobilisation exercise

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) will begin a nationwide revenue mobilisation exercise on Monday, November 9, to recover outstanding electricity bills from customers.

The exercise, which will run until Friday, November 27, will cover residential, commercial and industrial customers, as well as Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) with outstanding bills.

The power distributor says special teams will monitor the exercise and take action against customers who illegally connect electricity or interfere with the revenue collection process.

In an announcement, ECG urged customers with outstanding bills to settle their debts to avoid disconnection and additional reconnection charges.

“Customers with arrears are advised to pay their bills now to avoid disconnection, and payment of reconnection fees,” the company stated.

ECG cautioned that customers who illegally reconnect their electricity supply after disconnection would also face action.

It added that customers who interfere with the exercise or engage in illegal electricity connections could be apprehended and prosecuted.

The company further advised customers who cannot access their electricity bills to visit the nearest ECG office for assistance.

It encouraged the public to use its approved payment channels, including the ECG Mobile App, to settle outstanding bills.

“Help ECG to serve you better,” the company urged customers.
