The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said its efforts to make the party more attractive and inclusive have encouraged more people to participate in its activities ahead of the December 2026 national executive elections.
Dr Peter Boamah Otokunor, Spokesperson for the NDC Congress Elections Committee, made the observation in an interview with Joy News ahead of the opening of nominations for the party’s national executive positions.
He said the party had introduced carefully planned strategies to create an environment where people from different backgrounds could participate without feeling disadvantaged.
“The NDC is not the NDC we used to know. The NDC has now become more attractive for a lot of people because of the carefully implemented strategies to make sure that the party does not become like other parties that you see in the country, but becomes attractive for all manner of people to be able to participate in the party,” he said.
Dr Otokunor added that the party remained committed to its principles of equal treatment and fairness, stressing that its internal electoral processes were designed to give members an opportunity to participate.
“Remember that we are a party that prides itself on egalitarian treatment of all persons, and we pride ourselves on equity,” he stated.
Providing an update on preparations for the upcoming congress, the committee spokesperson disclosed that the party had elected executives for 999 polling stations out of the 40,890 polling stations across the country.
He explained that the remaining stages of the internal elections, including the regional and other levels, were being organised in consultation with relevant state institutions, including the Electoral Commission and the Ghana Police Service.
According to him, completing the elections at the various levels would enable the party to compile the full list of delegates eligible to participate in the national congress.
Dr Otokunor further explained that the NDC constitution provides for the participation of constituency executives, regional executives, national executives, appointees and former executives in the congress.
He estimated that slightly more than 9,000 delegates would gather for the national executive elections.
