The highly anticipated 2024 Ghana Movie Awards, scheduled to take place on Tuesday, December 24, at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), has left nominees and movie enthusiasts disappointed as the event failed to come off without any official explanation from the organizers.
This year’s event marked a return after a two-year hiatus, generating excitement with a nominations list that highlighted the remarkable achievements and creativity in Ghanaian cinema.
The list showcased a diverse range of talent, from captivating performances to innovative filmmaking techniques, positioning the awards as a beacon of excellence in the film industry.
However, several nominees who prepared to grace the occasion expressed their frustrations.
Speaking to Blogger and Journalist Attractive Mustapha, they revealed they had no prior information about the event's cancellation. Many of them showed up at the AICC, only to discover that the ceremony was not happening.
One nominee, who wished to remain anonymous, stated, "I dressed up, prepared my team, and went to the venue, but it was deserted. It’s disappointing that we were not informed about this development. We deserve better communication from the organizers."
Despite the buzz surrounding the awards, the silence from the organizing committee has raised concerns and sparked public criticism. Fans and stakeholders in the movie industry are now calling on the organizers to issue a statement clarifying the reasons behind the no-show.
The Ghana Movie Awards has long been a platform for celebrating the artistry and achievements of filmmakers, actors, and other stakeholders in the industry. This year’s lapse has left many questioning the credibility and commitment of the organizers to the growth of the industry.
