National Handball team present medals to Sports Minister

Accra , Sep 30, GNA - The National Volleyball team, the Black Spikers, have presented medals they won at the Africa Volleyball Zone Three Nations Cup in Burkina Faso, to the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye in Accra.

Mr. Vanderpuye, commended the team for their heroic feat at the tournament and promised of government's support to the team in due time.

'I wish to say congratulations to the Black Spikers for this wonderful achievement for your selves and also for the country.

'I thank you for your dedication and commitment. You didn't get a pesewa when you were leaving here, but you went to play, won a trophy. You are national heroes.

'It might not be today, but am assuring you that we would show appreciation for what you have achieved for the country.'

Mr. Vanderpuye, expressed appreciation to the technical team for their good work and patriotism in helping and nurturing the team to raise the flag of Ghana high without government's support.

'I want to thank you the technical team, you love this sport, you have stayed in and impacting knowledge without nothing.

'You are still killing yourselves for this sport that which is great, sometimes I see the frustration…'

The Minister also thanked the various security services for releasing their players any time there is a national assignment.

'I am thanking the heads of the various security services for even releasing their staff for us to be away all these while to compete for the nation.'

Mr. Vanderpuye urged the president of the handball association to present the various trophies won to the security services that has their players in the team to encourage them to release their staff any time there is a national assignment.

The team won a total of seven trophies out of the eight at stake during the five day tournament with both the male and female teams winning all their matches.
