Adam Larsen Kwarasey
Ghana Goalkeeper Adam Larsen Kwarasey has described what the Black Stars team went through at the 2014 World Cup as 'a sick experience', stating that he is considering quitting international football.
'I don't think any other football player in Norway has experienced what happened with us in Brazil. It was a sick experience.
'Outside the pitch it happened way too much that a football player shouldn't have to be a part of.
Trouble with the flights, the hotels and internal problems,' he told VG Sporting in Norway.
The goalkeeper maintained that the expulsion of Sulley Muntari and Kevin Boateng from the team was unfair, considering the prevailing situation at the time.
'Things like that happen when it gets to that point. At the end you get fed up. I understand his (Sulley's) reaction after what we experienced.
'I think it was unfair. I don't think they did anything wrong.
They stood up for the rest of the players. They spoke out, they told the truth. The truth was maybe too much for the guys running the FA.'
The Stromsgodset captain alleged that team selection at the tournament was not based on merit and that other factors decided who started in matches.
Kwarasey was handed a starting role in Ghana's Group G opener against USA and despite losing 2-1, he impressed.
The 26-year-old therefore expressed his frustrations and revealed he might consider his Black Stars future.
'There is no point travelling to Ghana if things other than your performance decide whether you play or not,' he added.
Kwarasey narrated how he was mysteriously axed from the starting line-up to face Germany in their second match.
'It was hopeless. We had the pre-match meeting four or five hours before the game. At that meeting, I was in the team. Then there was a little back and forth and suddenly I was out,' he added.
'I asked why? The coach didn't look me in the eye. He just looked down and said 'sorry'.
Then I understood that it probably wasn't his choice.
'I would still be pissed off if it wasn't for the joy it was to come home to my son who was born during the World Cup,' he stressed.
