Senegal's preparations for their pivotal 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Norway have reportedly been disrupted by growing unrest within the national team camp, with several off-field issues threatening to overshadow the Lions of Teranga's campaign.
Reports from the team's base in the United States suggest that a number of players are increasingly unhappy over unresolved administrative and welfare concerns, raising concerns about the mood within the squad ahead of one of their most significant fixtures.
One of the key issues reportedly causing frustration is the non-payment of player bonuses. Despite Senegal's participation in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and their successful qualification for the World Cup, players are said to be awaiting outstanding payments.
The reported delay has allegedly created discontent among members of the squad, with some players questioning the management of financial matters by the country's football authorities.
Concerns have also been raised over the team's accommodation arrangements during the training camp in the United States. Several players are reportedly dissatisfied with the standard of lodging provided, believing the facilities fall short of what is expected for a national team of Senegal's calibre.
The situation has been further compounded by the absence of the team's regular chef, who travelled with the squad during the 2025 AFCON but was not included in the delegation for the current camp. Reports indicate that the decision has affected the quality of meals available to players.
As a result, some members of the squad are reportedly opting to order food from outside the camp, underlining broader concerns regarding player welfare and preparation.
Adding to the uncertainty is the contractual status of head coach Pape Thiaw. According to reports, Thiaw has yet to sign a formal contract with the Senegalese Football Federation and is also said to be owed several months' salary.
The developments have sparked widespread debate among supporters and football analysts, particularly given the timing of the reported issues as Senegal gear up for a decisive encounter against Norway.
Although Senegal remain one of Africa's leading football nations and harbour ambitions of making a deep run at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the latest reports have cast a cloud over preparations and intensified calls for football authorities to address the concerns swiftly.
At the time of publication, neither the Senegalese Football Federation nor the national team's management had issued an official response to the allegations.
With the crucial showdown against Norway fast approaching, attention will now be on whether Senegal can overcome the off-field distractions and maintain their focus on delivering results on the pitch.
