Ghana qualified to the final of the 2013 Wafu Nations Cup after beating Burkina Faso 2-1 in Kumasi on Monday.
The local Black Stars were on the verge of elimination and needed a win to remain in the tournament.
But Ghana's progress was aided by Sierra Leone's 2-2 draw with Benin, who begun the day as leaders.
The hosts took the lead in the 20th minute when right-back Godfred Saka curled in a free-kick from the left flank.
The Aduana Stars defender delivered one of his trademark efforts and goalkeeper Mohammed Kabore was beaten.
Saka turned villain before half-time when he felled Sidiki Kabore in the box after the winger had out-run him.
Kabore, the goalkeeper, elected himself and expertly converted it to beat his opposite number Stephen Adams.
Burkina were revitalized but the leveller and took the game to the hosts but could not take the lead.
Before the hour mark, captain Yahaya Mohammed applied a blistering header to a cross from Saka to put his side ahead for the second time in the match.
Few minutes before the goal was scored, the fourth referee had advertised that Mohammed was to be replaced but head coach Maxwell Konadu stopped the substitution.
Ghana will now play the winner in Group B in the final at the Baba Yara Stadium on Thursday.
