A fuel tanker driver was burnt to death after his vehicle overturned and burst into flames at Adubinso near Aduman in the Afigya Kwabre South Municipality of the Ashanti Region, destroying several roadside shops and leaving another person critically injured.
The tragic incident occurred on Thursday, June 4, 2026, throwing the Adubinso community into mourning.
The deceased, identified as Abass Toure, a resident of Adubinso, reportedly died instantly when the fuel tanker caught fire after overturning.
According to eyewitnesses, the tanker was travelling from Edwinase towards Adubinso when the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle while attempting to park by the roadside.
"The vehicle suddenly overturned and within moments it was engulfed in flames. The driver could not escape and was burnt beyond recognition," an eyewitness recounted.
A mate who was travelling with the driver sustained severe burns in the accident and is currently receiving treatment at a health facility.
Confirming the incident, Mamponteng Fire Commander, DOII Akua Brago, said personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service responded swiftly after receiving a distress call.
"We received the emergency call at about 12:05 p.m. and arrived at the scene at 12:25 p.m. Our firefighters managed to bring the fire under control and prevented it from spreading to nearby properties," she stated.
DOII Brago disclosed that the blaze completely destroyed seven container shops located along the roadside. A Ford vehicle parked close to a residential building was also consumed by the fire.
"The intensity of the fire caused extensive damage. Seven container shops were destroyed, and a parked Ford vehicle was also burnt," she added.
Local sources indicated that the remains of the deceased would be buried in accordance with Islamic customs.
Residents of Adubinso have expressed shock and sorrow over the incident, describing Mr. Toure's death as a painful loss to the community.
Authorities are expected to conduct further investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
