Former Black Stars forward David Accam has voiced concern about Ghana’s form and overall quality as the team builds up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, warning that inconsistency could undermine their campaign despite the presence of several Europe-based players.
The comments add to the ongoing debate about the team’s readiness ahead of the tournament, where Black Stars have been drawn into a challenging Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Ghana continue their preparations with a friendly against Wales at the Cardiff City Stadium, part of a build-up schedule designed to fine-tune the squad ahead of the global showpiece.
Speaking to Graphic Sports, the former MLS attacker argued that Ghana’s main challenge is not talent but cohesion, insisting the team lacks a clear identity on the pitch.
“We have individuals and not a team,” Accam said.
“Every time I watch them [Black Stars], it is difficult to see them play as a team. It is difficult to identify a style of play or a tactical approach. Most of the time, we rely on individual players to produce something special," he added.
The Black Stars have already arrived in the United States ahead of the tournament and will open their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17 at BMO Field, before facing England on June 23 at Gillette Stadium and wrapping up their group stage against Croatia on June 27.
They will complete their preparations with a final warm-up match against Jamaica on June 10.
