Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo believes the Black Stars possess the quality and depth to challenge any opponent at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting the team has what it takes to make a strong statement on the global stage.
The 26-year-old, named in Ghana’s final squad for the tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico, has been in impressive form and is expected to play a key role as the team targets a return to the knockout stage for the first time since 2010.
Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama, a section widely regarded as highly competitive.
Speaking in an interview with FIFA, Semenyo expressed confidence in the squad’s potential, stressing that belief and execution on the pitch will be crucial.
"I feel like when we do come together, such a special group with endless talent, and I feel we can shock a lot of nations. We just need to prove to the world that we can be up there and compete with everyone else. I feel like that's the only question right now. So once we do that, that would be the story rewritten," Semenyo said.
The forward also reflected on his international decision, saying he never seriously considered representing England after Ghana’s approach during his teenage years.
"Ghana came when I was 19 or 20, so I was never going to turn it down. "It's a dream come true, to be honest."
Semenyo added that the backing of his family has played a major role in his journey, highlighting their consistent support for his decision to represent the Black Stars.
"Obviously, living in England, you get a conversation, 'Oh, you should represent England,' but it was never a conversation I've ever had, really. It means a lot just cheering on Ghana, and they're cheering me on. It's great support, and I just love every memory."
The Black Stars are currently in the United States ahead of their campaign opener against Panama on June 17 at BMO Field. They will then face England at Gillette Stadium on June 23 before wrapping up their group matches against Croatia on June 27.
Ghana will fine-tune preparations with a warm-up fixture against Jamaica on June 10.
