Accra, Aug. 5, GNA – Clement Kofi Humado, Minister for Youth and Sports has officially handed over a multipurpose court to the Anlo Senior High School to enhance the development of sporting talents in the school.
The facility, which will also serve residents in the Keta Municipality, was handed over to the School last Friday at a brief ceremony.
The multipurpose court worth 100,000 dollars is among the 20 others being funded by mining firm, AngloGold Ashanti, as part of their corporate social responsibility to help promote and develop sports across the country.
Humado commended AngloGold Ashanti for their commitment towards the promotion and development of sports in the country and also appealed to individuals and other corporate organizations to augment Government's support in the growth of sports.
“The Ministry in collaboration with the National Sports Authority has made it a priority to promote the 'lesser known' sporting disciplines, so that at the next Olympic Games in 2016, Ghana can compete in the likes of Volleyball, Tennis, Basketball, Table Tennis, Handball amongst others,” Humado said.
The Minister indicated that sports is no longer recreational and urged the youth to take it seriously alongside their studies whilst assuring of support from Government to students who excel in sports.
He also charged the school authorities and the Keta Municipal Assembly to regularly maintain the court to ensure it remains in good condition always.
Headmaster of the school, W.I.K Azumah expressed gratitude to the Minister and assured that facility would be put to good use.
Aside, Anlo Senior High School, other beneficiary institutions for the second phase of the project are West Africa Senior High School, Swedru Business School, Techiman Senior High School and Dadieso Senior High School.
The first phase saw the University of Ghana, Anfoega and Hohoe (both in the Volta Region) and Bolgatanga as the beneficiaries.
