World Cup venues: Guadalajara Stadium, Mexico

Home to Club Deportivo Guadalajara - who are also known as Chivas - during its normal working life, the 48,000 seat Guadalajara Stadium was built on raised ground with a spherical design some 1,560m above sea level.

The high altitude action starts with the Group A game between South Korea and the Czech Republic on 11 June.

It continues a week later with Mexico's second game of the pool stages against South Korea.

Democratic Republic of Congo, one of 10 African teams taking part in the 2026 competition, play Colombia in their second Group K encounter there on 23 June. A heavyweight clash between Uruguay and Spain concludes proceedings on 26 June.

Game of two sides for Hernandez 

The stadium was inaugurated on 30 July 2010 with a friendly match between Chivas and Manchester United.

The game was part of the deal which took the 21-year-old Chivas striker Javier Hernandez to United.

He played one half for his old club and then switched sides to his new team. 

Hernandez went on to play for United 157 times for United over the next five years scoring 59 goals and winning four trophies including two Premier League titles.

A year after its opening, the stadium hosted eight matches of the 2011 under-17 World Cup including a semi-final, between Uruguay and Brazil.

It was also the venue of the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2011 Pan American Games.
