'I will fight for a world title only if it's in the US' - Adama

World title prospect, Osumanu Adama, has exclusively told Joy Sports he will not take any other world title fight unless it is staged in the USA where he is based. Adama claims his experience in Australia on March 7 where he lost to native Daniel Geale has informed his decision. According to the boxer the failed attempt at snatching the IBF middleweight title from the Australian was due to certain pre-fight skirmishes which have had an effect on him, to date.

'I was given the opportunity to fight for the WBO middleweight title against Dimitry Pirog in his native Russia but I declined. I told them point blank that i don't want to go to any body's country to fight,' Adama told Joy Sports. According to him, his status as a title holder gives him the right to chose where he want to fight. Osumanu Adama hits the headlines late last year when he recorded a ninth round knockout win against former world champion, Roman Karmazin to earn the world title shot with Daniel Geale.

Before that, Adama had defeated Marcus Upshaw to win the IBO inter-continental and USBA middleweight titles.

Adama, who is a product of the Fit Square Gym in Accra, is currently the number two contender on the IBF rankings and is expected to land another major world title opportunity soon. His loss to Daniel Geale not only cost him an opportunity to win the IBF title but increased his loss tally to three on his professional fight record where he has won 20 fights and drawn none.

Osumanu Adama, 31, began his professional career in 2001 and recorded a chain of impressive results to dominate the middleweight division in West Africa and eventually on the continent. Ghana is currently without a world champion and title hopes now rest on the shoulders of Joseph Agbeko who will fight for the IBO title on May 26 and Osumanu Adama.
