Ghana Too Strong For Gabon

The national amateur boxing side Black Bombers prevailed over their Gabonese counterparts in their international friendly at the Bridge Boxing Gym in Accra on Monday night.

The competition, put together by the Ghana Amateur Boxing Federation (GABF) saw the Bombers winning eight out of the nine bouts staged.

The only defeat for Ghana came in the female division where Rose Awatey succumbed to Gaella Mekemeza in an 8-10 score, but Emelia Appiah picked up the challenge in the other female bout, beating Stephanie Mambou 10-9.

Ghana's Sulemanu Tetteh triumphed 13-8 over Markus Edou in the light flyweight 49kg division with Abdul Wahid following suit with a 12-10 score in their flyweight 52 kg category.

In the bantamweight 56kg division, Ghanaian-UK based Isaac Dogbe defeated Romeo Lemboumba with a technical win after an 8-8 score, while Gabon's Wiilfrid Mapaga bowed 7-13 to Musah R. Lawson in the light welterweight 64kg division.

Azumah Mohammed of Ghana thrashed Yannik Mitoumba 11-3 in their welterweight 69kg division with Emmanuel Martey overpowering Tessa Tonda 17-5 in their middleweight 75kg division.

Last edition's All African Games medalist Maxwell Amposah rode high in a heavyweight 91kg clash against Boudoukou with an 8-2 score.

GABF President Ambassador Ray Quarcoo commended the boxers for a job well done and promised to stage more of such competitions to keep the team on its toes as it prepares for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

He presented a beautifully designed GABF sash to the Gabon Federation president Clement Sossau, who in return made a 600 Cedi cash donation to GABF.
