Aduana FC Chief Executive Officer Collins Atta Poku has questioned the need for Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kurt Okraku to seek a third term, insisting that the focus should be on addressing the challenges facing Ghana football.
Okraku is reportedly considering another four-year mandate after GFA Congress approved constitutional amendments in 2025 to increase the presidential term limit from two to three terms.
The amendment was approved at the association's 2025 Congress at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.
However, Atta Poku believes discussions about extending Okraku's stay in office are misplaced, arguing that attention should instead be directed towards reforms needed to improve the domestic game.
Speaking to Ahenfie FM, the Aduana FC chief executive questioned what more the incumbent president could achieve with another term.
“I don’t want to hear the (Kurt Okraku for GFA president) third-term conversation. What is there again to be done?” he said.
Atta Poku also expressed doubts about the GFA's capacity to lead the reforms required to revive Ghana football, calling for greater community involvement in the development of the game.
“The GFA lacks the capacity to lead the reforms Ghana football needs. To get the game back on its feet, we must give communities a genuine sense of ownership and belonging,” he added.
The debate over the GFA presidency is expected to intensify ahead of the next elections, scheduled for October 2027.
Several personalities have been linked to the race, including former GFA Executive Council member Samuel Annim Addo, former Brong Ahafo Regional Football Association chairman Ralph Gyambrah, Karela United chief executive Elloeny Amande, former Black Stars captain Andre Ayew and former GFA vice-president George Afriyie.
Okraku, who was first elected GFA president in October 2019, is yet to publicly declare whether he intends to contest for a third term.
