The police have arrested a 72-year-old man, Samuel Christopher Osei Anto, in connection with the murder of two relatives at NTHC Estate, Sakumono, in the Greater Accra Region.
The suspect was arrested on Sunday, November 1, at his hideout at Tikrom, near Ejisu in the Ashanti Region, following an intelligence-led operation.
A Smith & Wesson pistol and seven rounds of live ammunition were also retrieved from him during the operation.
In a statement issued on Monday, November 2, the Ashanti Regional Police Command said the arrest followed investigations into the deaths of Irene Atuguba, 47, and her uncle, George Atuguba, 57.
"The arrest follows an earlier press release issued by the Accra Regional Police Command on 30th October 2026, concerning the murder of Irene Atuguba, aged 47, and George Atuguba, aged 57," the statement said.
The two were reportedly shot dead at their residence on Friday, October 30, following a confrontation involving the suspect over an alleged GH¢500,000 debt.
An earlier police account indicated that Osei Anto had visited the residence with a 47-year-old woman, Beatrice Mumuni, to demand repayment of the money allegedly owed him by George Atuguba.
A misunderstanding reportedly ensued, during which the suspect allegedly shot and killed George and his niece, Irene.
Mumuni was later arrested by the police in connection with the incident, while Osei Anto was declared wanted.
The police also announced a GH¢100,000 reward for credible information leading to his arrest.
Confirming the latest development, the Ashanti Regional Police Command said the suspect was in custody assisting investigations.
"The suspect is currently in police custody assisting investigations, while the recovered firearm and ammunition have been retained as exhibits," the statement added.
