Black Maidens coach Joe Nana Adarkwa says he is proud of his players despite Ghana's elimination from the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup following a 1-0 quarter-final defeat by Japan.
Ghana's campaign ended on Sunday at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Rabat, with the Asian side securing victory to book their place in the semi-finals.
The Black Maidens had recovered from a difficult start to the tournament to reach the last eight but were unable to extend their impressive run against Japan.
After a goalless first half, Japan took the lead in the 54th minute through Nanami Kurita, who reacted quickest to a rebound after Yuka Kishida's effort fell into her path inside the penalty area.
That proved to be the decisive moment as Japan held on to their advantage to end Ghana's hopes of reaching the semi-finals.
Despite the disappointment, Adarkwa praised his players for their determination and commitment throughout the competition, insisting they had given their best.
Speaking to FIFA Media, the Ghana coach said the team would return home, learn from the experience and work towards future opportunities on the international stage.
"We did our best, but we're happy at the end of the journey," he said.
"We didn't give up. We're proud of ourselves, and I'm proud of that. We go back home, work harder, and see what happens.
"We'll be here next year," he added.
Japan, meanwhile, will face South Korea in an all-Asian semi-final as they continue their pursuit of the tournament title.
