2028 Olympic Games: Black Queens drawn against Mauritius in qualifiers

Ghana’s Black Queens will face Mauritius in the second round of the African qualifiers for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

The Black Queens will travel to Mauritius for the first leg on Thursday, October 8, 2026, before hosting the return fixture in Ghana on Tuesday, October 13.

Mauritius booked their place in the second round after overcoming Djibouti 3-1 on aggregate in the preliminary round.

They won the first leg 2-1 at home before sealing qualification with a 1-0 victory in the return leg.

Ghana, one of Africa’s highest-ranked women’s national teams, were among 29 countries given a bye through the preliminary round.

The Black Queens will therefore enter the competition at the second of five knockout rounds as they continue their pursuit of a first appearance at the Olympic Games.

Ghana have never qualified for the women’s Olympic football tournament, making the 2028 qualifiers another opportunity for the Black Queens to break new ground.

The team will need to overcome Mauritius across two legs before progressing to the next stage of the qualification process.

With the tournament set to take place in Los Angeles, the Black Queens will hope to navigate the five-round African qualifying campaign and secure one of the continent’s places at the 2028 Olympic Games.
