2027 AFCON Qualifiers: Black Stars are facing a couple of challenges - Carlos Queiroz

Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz insists there are no fundamental problems within the Ghana national team despite their recent poor run of results.

Ghana have won just one of their last 11 matches and are under pressure to return to the Africa Cup of Nations after missing out on the 2025 tournament in Morocco.

Queiroz, who took charge ahead of the 2026 World Cup, has managed one victory in six games as Black Stars coach. His side also began their 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign with a 2-0 defeat by Côte d'Ivoire in Bouaké last Thursday.

However, the Portuguese coach says the team's current struggles should be viewed as challenges to be addressed rather than evidence of deeper problems.

"Black Stars are facing a couple of challenges, a couple of problems, but Black Stars is not a problem. Like everything in life...we face challenges, and our duty as professionals is to solve the problems," he said.

"Yes, we are facing some challenges; that is the challenge we have in front of us, but Black Stars was never a problem, Black Stars is not a problem, and Black Stars will never be a problem in the future," Queiroz added.

Ghana host The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, with kick-off at 16:00 GMT.

The Black Stars are looking for their first points in Group C after their defeat by Côte d'Ivoire, with victory over The Gambia providing an opportunity to revive their qualification campaign.

Ghana missed the 2025 AFCON finals for the first time in more than two decades, ending a run of consecutive appearances at the tournament.
