2027 AFCON Qualifiers: GFA asks CAF for more tickets as Ghana fans miss out in Bouaké

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has appealed to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for additional tickets after hundreds of Ghanaian supporters who travelled to Bouaké were left without access to Thursday's 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Côte d'Ivoire.

Around 500 Black Stars fans made the journey across the border to back their team, but have been unable to secure entry to the Stade de la Paix after the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) announced that tickets for the Group C opener had sold out.

The GFA received its official ticket allocation during Wednesday's Match Coordination Meeting, but said the number provided was not enough to cater for the large Ghanaian contingent already in the Ivorian city.

In a letter to CAF, the association requested an additional allocation of about 500 tickets to accommodate the stranded supporters.

The GFA also said it had raised the issue with the match commissioner, who had assured the association he would assist in finding a solution.

"The GFA remains committed to ensuring that Ghanaian supporters who have made the trip to Bouaké are given the opportunity to cheer the Black Stars," the association said.

Carlos Queiroz's side begin their qualifying campaign against the Elephants at the Stade de la Paix before returning home to face The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on 27 September.

Ghana are seeking a swift return to the Africa Cup of Nations after missing the 2025 tournament in Morocco, where they finished bottom of their qualifying group.

The Black Stars will conclude the international window with a friendly against Morocco at the Grand Stade de Tanger on 4 October.
