2027 AFCON Qualifiers: Carlos Queiroz confirms five additions to Black Stars squad ahead of opening games

Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz has confirmed five new additions to the Black Stars squad ahead of their opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches.

Brandon Thomas-Asante, left-back Ebenezer Anang, Mohammed Fuseini, Jonas Adjetey and Alidu Seidu have been added to the squad following a series of withdrawals and injury concerns.

Speaking to the media in Accra on Monday, Queiroz confirmed the latest changes and revealed that the technical team was still working to bring in two more players.

“I am pleased to announce that in the front line we have new replacements confirmed. Thomas Asante will join the team,” Queiroz said.

“In the defensive line, left-back Anang is coming, and Mohammed Fuseini is also confirmed. Jonas Adjetey is coming, and Alidu Seidu has also joined after starting to play.”

The Portuguese coach added: “We are still trying to confirm two other players, another centre-back and another centre-forward.”

The latest changes follow Mohammed Kudus' decision to withdraw from the squad to continue his recovery from injury.

Lorient defender Nathaniel Adjei has also pulled out because of injury, while Thomas Partey was not included in the original squad because of hamstring problems.

Ghana begin their Group C qualifying campaign away to Côte d'Ivoire at the Stade de la Paix in Bouaké on 24 September.

The Black Stars will then host The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on 27 September as Queiroz's side look to make a positive start to their qualifying campaign.

Ghana will conclude the international window with a friendly against Morocco at the Grand Stade de Tanger on 4 October.
