Debibi United head coach Isaac Nii-Armah has apologised after coming under fire for what he described as a remark that was perceived as "racist" towards Asante Kotoko coach Eric Tinkler.
The controversy followed Debibi United's 2-2 Ghana Premier League draw with Kotoko on Sunday, after Nii-Armah boasted about his unbeaten record against "white coaches" when referring to the South African tactician.
His comments prompted a public backlash, leading the Debibi coach to issue an apology.
"If my statement is being seen as 'racist', then I apologise," Nii-Armah told Max FM.
"I was just expressing myself. People should be looking at the positive aspect. Why don't we appreciate what we, the coaches, are doing?"
On the pitch, Kotoko took an early lead through Yakubu Dogo after 15 minutes, but Debibi United mounted a spirited comeback after the break.
Richard Owusu scored twice to turn the match in the hosts' favour before Hubert Gyau rescued a point for Kotoko with an equaliser in the 79th minute.
Kotoko will next host Heart of Lions at the Baba Yara Stadium, while Debibi United travel to face Swedru All Blacks.
