How honest station loading boy handed over missing €3,000, GH¢1,000 to Police

A station loading boy at Ayi Mensah in the Greater Accra Region, Jonathan Quaicoe, has been commended for his honesty after returning a bag containing €3,000 and GH¢1,000 that was reportedly left behind in a commercial vehicle travelling from Accra to Koforidua.

Quaicoe, who found the bag while on duty, handed it over to the police, helping to reunite the missing money and other valuables with their owner.

According to the police, the owner, a woman who had boarded a commercial Toyota Hiace at Ghana Flag in Accra to Koforidua, discovered upon reaching her destination that the bag containing the money was missing.

She subsequently reported the matter at the Koforidua Central Police Station, prompting the New Juaben South Police Command to dispatch an investigation team to Accra to trace the missing property.

The team, comprising police personnel and drivers, conducted enquiries and gathered information which led them to Quaicoe, who was found to be in possession of the bag.

He subsequently handed the bag and its contents to the police, resulting in the recovery of the €3,000, GH¢1,000 and the other items it contained.

Impressed by his honesty, the owner reportedly rewarded Quaicoe, while the police also presented him with a brand-new mobile phone in recognition of his conduct.

At a ceremony held to honour him, the New Juaben South Municipal Crime Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Augustine Asante Kusi, praised Quaicoe for choosing to return the valuables instead of keeping them.

ASP Asante Kusi urged the public to follow his example by handing over lost property to the police so that efforts could be made to identify and locate the rightful owners.

He said acts of honesty and integrity were essential to building public trust and contributing to a safer society.
