How frustrated parents sleep at GNAT Hall as CSSPS placement challenges enter third day

Frustration is mounting at the GNAT Hall in Accra as the exercise to resolve challenges with the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) enters its third day.

The Greater Accra Placement Resolution Centre has continued to attract anxious parents and candidates seeking solutions to various Senior High School placement challenges, with some reportedly spending the night at the facility after their concerns remained unresolved.

The situation has resulted in long queues and prolonged waiting periods, further heightening the anxiety of parents determined to secure appropriate school placements for their children.

Some parents arrived at the centre as early as dawn in an attempt to beat the growing crowds and receive assistance from officials.

One parent, who was seeking to resolve his son’s placement challenge, said he had to spend the night at the GNAT Hall car park with his child after waiting for several hours without a solution.

He said his son had initially been placed at Apam Day Senior High School in the Central Region as a day student. However, after reporting to the school, they were directed to the GNAT Hall in Accra to have the placement issue addressed.

Determined to resolve the matter, the parent said he left home at about 3 a.m. and arrived at the placement centre around 4 a.m.

Despite his early arrival, he said the large number of parents and candidates already gathered at the centre made it difficult for officials to attend to everyone promptly.

According to him, officials began attending to parents at about 8 a.m. and instructed those seeking to change their wards’ placement from day to boarding to provide written reasons on the relevant forms.

He said after submitting the required information, he and other affected parents were asked to wait for further assistance.

However, after spending the entire day at the centre without a resolution, the parents were eventually asked to return the following day.

With his son’s placement still unresolved, the parent said he had no option but to remain at the facility in the hope of getting the issue addressed.

“I left home as early as 3 a.m. and got here at 4 a.m. The officials started work around 8 a.m. We were asked to write our reasons for changing from day to boarding. After collecting the forms, they told us to wait.”

He added: “I came early today and pleaded with them to attend to us. So I am still waiting.”
