Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Gideon Fosu, has confirmed that discussions are ongoing to appoint a new head coach for the Black Stars following the departure of Carlos Queiroz.
The senior national team is currently without a substantive coach after Queiroz's short-term contract expired. The experienced Portuguese tactician was appointed in April on a four-month deal ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, replacing Otto Addo, who was dismissed in March.
Although the GFA explored the possibility of extending Queiroz's stay, negotiations reportedly collapsed over financial demands, bringing an end to his brief tenure with the four-time African champions.
Speaking to Citi Sports, Fosu assured Ghanaians that the Football Association is actively working to secure a new coach and that an appointment will be made before the team's next competitive assignments.
“What’s important for Ghanaians to know is that we have important matches ahead, including the game against Senegal and the qualifiers,” Fosu said.
“What I can say with certainty is that we will have a coach in charge of the Black Stars. Discussions are still ongoing, negotiations are continuing, and at the appropriate time the president of the FA will announce who the next coach will be.”
Queiroz, who guided Ghana at the 2026 World Cup, reportedly earned $80,000 per month during his stint with the national team.
The Black Stars are expected to return to action in September when they begin their qualifying campaign for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
After missing out on qualification for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco, Ghana will be eager to secure a place at the next tournament. The Black Stars have been drawn in Group C alongside Côte d’Ivoire, The Gambia and Somalia.
The search for a new coach is therefore expected to be a key priority for the GFA as preparations intensify for the upcoming qualifiers and the team's long-term rebuilding process.
