Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) Communications Director Charles Osei Asibey has criticised Black Bombers head coach Ofori Asare following Ghana's underwhelming boxing campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

His comments come after the experienced trainer cited inadequate logistical support as a major factor that affected the team's preparations and overall performance during the competition.

Ghana fielded a 10-member boxing contingent made up of athletes from the Black Bombers and Black Hitters, with five fighters advancing to the quarter-finals.

However, only African Games champion Amadu Mohammed progressed beyond that stage, securing a bronze medal to become Ghana's sole boxing medallist and the country's second overall medallist at the Games.

Speaking on Asempa FM, Asibey expressed disappointment with the team's performance, insisting the results failed to match the expectations created by the coaching staff before the tournament.

“I don’t want to blame anyone, but Ofori Asare promised Ghana medals and failed to deliver,” he said.

He maintained that the coach should accept responsibility for the outcome instead of attributing the disappointing campaign to external factors.

According to Asibey, there are only two possible explanations for Ghana's poor performance in the ring.

“From my perspective, there are two things: either we were being robbed, or we were doing something technically wrong,” he added.

The GOC Communications Director called for a comprehensive review of the boxing team's campaign to establish what went wrong and identify the necessary improvements ahead of future international competitions.

Despite travelling to Glasgow with a strong 10-member squad, Ghana's boxing team finished with just one medal, a performance that fell short of expectations.

The result represented a decline from the country's showing at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and equalled the single-medal return recorded at the 2018 Gold Coast Games.
