The Sagnarigu Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) has imposed a curfew on Damankunyili, Nyeshie and surrounding communities in the Northern Region following violent clashes that claimed one life and left six others injured.
The disturbances are believed to have been triggered by a long-running land dispute, with both the Damankunyili and Nyeshie communities laying claim to the same parcel of land.
The violence prompted an emergency meeting of the Sagnarigu Municipal Security Council on Tuesday to assess the security situation and adopt measures to restore calm.
In a statement signed by the Municipal Chief Executive and Chairman of MUSEC, Abdulai Imoro Gong, the Council condemned the clashes, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and wished those injured a speedy recovery.
As part of measures to prevent further violence, MUSEC announced a daily curfew from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., which will remain in force until further notice.
The Council has also prohibited the carrying of arms, ammunition and other offensive weapons within the affected communities.
Meanwhile, joint police patrols have been intensified to enforce the curfew and maintain law and order as authorities work to prevent a recurrence of the violence.
