Black Stars midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi has underlined his commitment to the national team, insisting he is prepared to feature in any position as Ghana continues its push at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The young midfielder, who struck a stoppage-time winner against Panama to secure all three points, has emerged as one of Ghana’s standout performers in the tournament so far.
Yirenkyi’s development has been shaped by tactical adjustments at the international level. Under former head coach Otto Addo, he was frequently deployed at right-back — a role that drew debate among observers who felt it restricted his influence in midfield.
However, a return to a central role under Carlos Queiroz has seen him flourish, with improved performances and growing impact in attack.
The midfielder has now scored twice for the national team, including his decisive goal against Panama, further cementing his rising profile on the global stage.
Speaking after the match, Yirenkyi dismissed any concerns over his positioning, stressing his willingness to serve the team in whatever capacity is required.
I’m just quite happy to serve my nation anywhere on the field. I don’t really mind. Just do the job.”
Ghana’s victory places them second in Group L, behind England, who began their campaign with a 4-2 win over Croatia.
The Black Stars now shift focus to a high-stakes clash with England at Gillette Stadium on June 23, before concluding their group stage fixtures against Croatia four days later.
Queiroz’s side will be hoping to build on their winning start as they target progression to the knockout stages — a feat Ghana last achieved by reaching the quarter-finals in 2010.
