Ghanaian tactician Charles Akonnor has been crowned Kenya's Coach of the Season after steering Gor Mahia to a record-extending 22nd Kenyan Premier League title.
The former Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak head coach enjoyed a remarkable debut campaign in Kenya, leading Gor Mahia to league glory and further strengthening the club's position as the country's most successful football team.
Gor Mahia secured the championship with two matches remaining after title rivals AFC Leopards suffered a 2-1 defeat to APS Bomet. The result left Leopards four points behind the leaders with only one game left to play, officially handing the title to Akonnor's side.
Since taking charge of Gor Mahia in August 2025, Akonnor has overseen a dramatic turnaround, transforming the club into the dominant force in Kenyan football within a single season.
The Ghanaian coach has been supported by an all-Ghanaian technical team comprising assistant coach Bismark Kobi Mensah, goalkeepers' trainer Ben Owu, and video analyst Joshua Kofi Boafo.
Akonnor's success was further boosted by the contributions of several Ghanaian players, including Enock Morrison, George Amonoo, Ebenezer Adukwaw and Ebenezer Assifuah, who played key roles throughout the title-winning campaign.
Morrison's impressive performances were also recognised as he was named the league's Midfielder of the Season.
Gor Mahia ended the season at the top of the table with 68 points, and Akonnor's achievement in delivering the championship made him a clear choice for the Coach of the Season award.
The accolade further enhances Akonnor's growing reputation on the continent, with the former Ghana national team coach now set to lead Gor Mahia into next season's CAF Champions League campaign.
