Black Stars forward Brandon Thomas-Asante has described his call-up to the Ghana national team as the fulfilment of a lifelong ambition, saying the experience represents one of the most meaningful milestones of his career.
The Coventry City striker, who recently celebrated promotion to the English Premier League, said wearing the national colours of Ghana is the reward for years of dedication, patience and belief in his journey through English football.
Thomas-Asante is currently with the Black Stars camp in Cardiff as the team prepares for an international friendly against Wales, and he reflected on the emotional weight of representing the country of his heritage on the global stage.
“It’s always the biggest privilege,” he said in an interview with the Ghana Football Association media team.
The 26-year-old added that the dream of playing for Ghana dates back to his childhood, long before his rise in professional football.
“I think it’s something that, since I was young, when I was going to the games, I used to pray, believe and dream of achieving one day,” he added.
His path to the Black Stars has been built on steady progress and perseverance, earning recognition through consistent performances in England before breaking into the national setup under head coach Carlos Queiroz.
Now part of a squad preparing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Thomas-Asante admitted the moment still feels surreal as Ghana sharpen their plans for the tournament in North America.
“Now, to be here is incredible. To be able to prepare for the World Cup is something that, as I say, I’ve been praying for since I was a child,” he stated.
Before the tournament, Queiroz is expected to trim his provisional squad to a final 26-man list ahead of the competition.
Ghana will be making their fifth appearance at the World Cup and have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama.
The Black Stars begin their campaign against Panama on June 17 at BMO Field, before facing England on June 23 at Gillette Stadium. Their final group match will be against Croatia on June 27.
The four-time African champions will be hoping to progress beyond the group stage for the first time since their memorable run to the quarter-finals in 2010.
