Ghana Seeded For CAN 2008

Hosts Ghana, would be based in the capital, Accra, during next year's African Cup of Nations finals, following the announcement of the seeding system for today's draw.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF), Africa's soccer governing body, on Thursday named Ghana among the four top-seeded teams for the competition to be staged in four major cities across the country.

Ghana, chasing a fifth CAN title success are placed in group A.
The Black Stars, who are making their 16th appearance in African Cup of Nations, together with holders, Egypt, Nigeria and Tunisia, make up the four top-seeded teams.

Four-time winners, Cameroon head the list in the second tier of seeds along with Ivory Coast, Morocco and Senegal.

The third tier is made up of Guinea, Mali, South Africa and Zambia, while the last tier compromises Angola, Benin, Namibia and Sudan.
It is the first time Sudan has made it to the Nations Cup finals after more than three decades of failing to qualify.

The draw for the 2008 tournament will be made in Accra today and one team from each tier will be allocated in a group.

Hosts Ghana will be in Group A, to be based in the capital Accra, while Egypt will be at the head of Group C in Kumasi.

The seedings are determined by past African Nations Cup finals performances.
