Prince 'The Buzz' Nii Otokunor Larbie began his journey in boxing at just two and a half years old after discovering old photos of his father, Daniel Larbie, also known as Nii Otokunor IV, Manhean Gyasetse, who was once a boxer himself.
Inspired by these images, Prince told his father, now a trainer at the Will Power Boxing Gym in Jamestown, Accra, "I want to be a boxer, I want to be a champion."
Although his father advised him to focus on his education first, Prince was determined. Recognizing his son's passion, Daniel Larbie started taking him to the Will Power Boxing Gym, founded by the late Napoleon Tagoe, a former WBC Continental champion, where he works as a coach.
By the age of seven, Prince had already made international headlines as the fastest young boxer in the world, capable of throwing over 150 punches in a minute. His talents caught the attention of the BBC and gained significant social media attention. Deborah King, daughter of legendary U.S. promoter Don King, signed Prince to a three-year contract, setting up future training tours in Mexico and other locations. Despite his rising fame, his father remains cautious, emphasizing that he is still a child, and decisions will be made carefully as he matures.
In an exclusive interview, Prince shared that his ultimate goal is to win an Olympic gold medal for Ghana and to help those who are sick recover quickly. Alongside his boxing pursuits, Prince has also participated in the Accra Inter-City Homowo Marathon, finishing first in his category. His accomplishments extend beyond sports—he has starred in a film named after him, winning awards for acting, and has a scholarship from Prince de Henry Educational Complex, which supports his education. Science and mathematics are his favourite subjects, and he serves as a role model for his peers.
Prince 'The Buzz' Larbie has brought juvenile boxing into the spotlight in Ghana, inspiring many children to take up the sport. He is a crowd favourite at the Bukom Boxing Arena. Despite his demanding schedule, his father, a traditional leader at Manhean, ensures that Prince balances humility, love, education, and sports effectively. "If you know where you are going, you know how to drive safely to your destination," Daniel Larbie stated, expressing hope that his son will reach the pinnacle of boxing stardom.
Prince's hobbies include reading, dancing, and, of course, boxing. His boxing idols are Professor Azumah Nelson, D. K. Poison, Muhammad Ali, Floyd Mayweather, and Gervonta 'The Tank' Davis. Initially a bit unruly in school, Prince has grown calmer and more disciplined with age, according to his father.
As an ambassador for SparBar, a sports equipment company, Prince has demonstrated his impressive skills using their gear. He is media-friendly, confident, and always ready to step into the ring for an official match. With 51 fights already under his belt, he aims to break more records in the future. Prince's sights are set on the 2032 Olympic Games, where he hopes to bring glory to Ghana and Africa.
His father, reflecting on his own boxing career, said, "What I could not achieve in boxing, maybe my son will. I encourage all parents to support their children if they show interest in something positive. We are combining sports and education, and that's our path—no retreat, no surrender."
Prince Larbie is not just a boxer; he is also a marathon runner, actor, philanthropist, and budding scientist. He has already mastered the "sweet science" of boxing, setting records along the way. He was the first guest on the show 'The Big Fight Night' following the official launch of Omashi TV on October 18.
When asked about his nickname, 'The Buzz,' he explained, "I love bees and admire their behaviour."
With a blend of desire, determination, dedication, discipline, and dynamism, Prince 'The Buzz' Larbie is a royal rising star on a path to greatness.
