Asante Kotoko have been compelled to shift their home games to the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex in Abrankese.
This move follows the National Sports Authority's (NSA) announcement of a one-month closure of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium for renovation.
The stadium's condition has been a hot topic in the media, especially after the Black Stars' 1-0 loss to Angola in the opening match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
This defeat marked the end of Ghana's 24-year unbeaten streak at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
Many have blamed the poor pitch conditions for the loss, but NSA's Deputy Director General, Majeed Bawa, disagreed with the criticism.
Speaking to Asempa FM, he remarked, “Are they suggesting that the Angolans were playing in the sky? Both teams played on the same pitch, and CAF had inspected and approved it for the match.”
Despite this defense, the NSA has opted to close the stadium for maintenance and to repair damages caused by angry fans following the match. The stadium is expected to remain closed until October.
During this period, Kotoko will host their home games at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex. The Porcupine Warriors were initially set to play back-to-back home fixtures against Nsoatreman FC on matchday 2 and Young Apostles on matchday 3 of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League.
However, with the Baba Yara Stadium unavailable, they will need to adjust to their temporary new venue.
The new season kicks off on Saturday, September 7, with Kotoko scheduled to face Karela United at the Naa Sheriga Sports Complex.
