A major rescue operation is underway after a building collapsed at Avenor in North Kaneshie, opposite the Ashfoam showroom and adjacent to Melcom Plus, leaving one person in critical condition and others feared trapped beneath the rubble.
The incident occurred on Sunday, June 7, when a structure believed to be a residential building and mosque suddenly caved in. Preliminary information indicates the building was still under construction at the time of the collapse.
Providing a live update on the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Facebook page, Assistant Divisional Officer Alex King Nartey said firefighters from the Circle Fire Station and the National Headquarters were swiftly deployed to the scene to begin rescue operations.
According to the GNFS, two people have so far been rescued and rushed to the hospital, with one in very critical condition. Rescue teams suspect that at least one or two more individuals remain trapped under the debris.
The Director of Operations of the Fire Service is personally leading the mission, while heavy-duty equipment has been requested to help responders access hard‑to‑reach sections of the collapsed structure.
Firefighters and other emergency personnel continue to work tirelessly as efforts intensify to locate and rescue any remaining victims.
