Minister for Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has assured Ghanaians evacuated from South Africa that the government is fully committed to supporting their smooth reintegration, including actively facilitating employment opportunities for those ready to work.

Ablakwa gave the assurance on Saturday, June 6, when he welcomed a second batch of 345 evacuees who arrived at the Accra International Airport amid rising concerns over xenophobic attacks and hostility toward foreign nationals in South Africa.

The returnees were received by a government delegation led by the Foreign Affairs Minister as part of the ongoing national repatriation exercise aimed at bringing affected Ghanaians home safely and helping them rebuild their lives.

Addressing the evacuees shortly after their arrival, Ablakwa stressed that the government’s responsibility goes far beyond transporting citizens back to Ghana. He said the state is determined to ensure that returnees receive the support needed to transition successfully into life back home.

He emphasised that the government is focused on the long‑term welfare of the evacuees and is committed to creating pathways that will enable them to become economically productive and self‑reliant.

“We are concerned about your full integration. So, apart from all the parcels you will receive today — the dinner, the drinks, the refreshments, the transportation allowance and the resettlement allowance — we are going to make sure that those of you who are willing, able, and ready to work, we will actively facilitate employment opportunities for you.”

Ablakwa reiterated that the government remains steadfast in its duty to protect the welfare of Ghanaian citizens both at home and abroad, noting that the evacuation exercise reflects the state’s resolve to stand by its people in moments of difficulty.
