Nigerian filmmaker and producer Biodun Stephen has opened up about her motivation for making movies, stating that her focus is on living a life of purpose rather than chasing box office numbers.
She shared this perspective during a recent appearance on the Paul & Baaj: In Character podcast.
The director explained that she does not create films just to chase the audience or the financial figures associated with the industry.
According to her, the greatest reward is hearing from fans who reach out to tell her how much her work has impacted them, often praying, crying, and thanking her.
Biodun Stephen noted that a simple phone call from a grateful viewer is more fulfilling to her than any award, signaling that her work is truly done.
She said:
"I’m doing it because I am living a life of purpose; I’m not chasing the numbers, I’m not chasing the audience."
"When people call me to pray… and cry and say thank you so much, Jesus, my work is done, no award."
