Gospel singer Victoria Orenze has strongly criticized the habit of recording moments of worship on mobile phones, urging Christians to prioritize a genuine spiritual connection over content capture.
She made this known during a recent ministration session, warning her congregation about the consequences of focusing on their devices rather than the presence of God.
Orenze expressed frustration, stating that those who focus on capturing videos will eventually have nothing of spiritual value inside them. She advised them to instead "capture" the moment in their hearts and truly encounter God.
The 'I Get Backing' crooner compared the current generation's obsession with phones to biblical figures like Blind Bartimaeus and the woman with the issue of blood, who cried out to Jesus without needing to record the event.
According to her, those who are genuinely desperate for a miracle would not waste the moment making videos.
She said:
"Don’t use your phones; I will send you far away from here. You don’t know how to honour God. You don’t know how to respect the Spirit of God. Everything is about capturing, and yet you will have nothing inside. You want to capture? Capture in your heart. Drop those phones. Have an encounter with God."
"This generation, we are used to phones. Anything, phone. When you are making love in your room, do you carry phones? You are before the Lord. Blind Bartimeus didn’t carry a phone and say, ‘Jesus, Son of David.’ He was shouting. The woman with the issue of blood didn’t say, ‘Jesus is passing; let me video him.’ You don’t have issues. If you do, you won’t pick up your phones and make videos."
