Spokesperson for the National Concerned Spare Parts Dealers Association, Takyi Addo, has described President Akuffo Addo as incompetent, compared to former president John Mahama, in terms of economic governance.

He said the former president, who they thought was performing poorly in the management of the economy, was voted out of power but Nana Addo performance since assuming power has worsened the situation, bringing intense hardship on them.

Speaking to the host of Otec FM’s morning show ‘Nyansapo’, Captain Koda, on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, he said Nana Addo prior to the 2016 elections promised to abolish import duties on spare parts, but he rather increased the taxes and has failed to stabilize the dollar, affecting high cost of goods.

“Import taxes on our goods have all been increased, upon the promised the government made in the 2017 budget. During Mahama’s regime, we were paying an import duty on Matix salon car at GHC5, 300, now we are paying GHC7, 100 on the same car,” he said.

“The dollar exchange for the cedi was GHC4.20 when Mahama exited, now the cedi equivalent to the dollar is GHC5.20. So the question is, Nana Addo and John Mahama who is more incompetent, obviously its Nana Addo,” he quizzed.

He noted that they have slated Friday, September 21, to demonstrate in Accra, over the government’s insensitive increase in high import taxes and the inability to stabilize the dollar, as campaigned on.
