CAVNET Trains Students On National Volunteer Day

CAVNET Ghana, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) based in Wa in the Upper West Region on Thursday trained and mentored over five hundred students across the Upper West and Northern Regions as part of a two-day event to mark the National Volunteer Day in Ghana.

National Volunteer Day (NVDay) which has over the years been marked on 21st September is geared towards encouraging Ghanaians to take up the attitude of Volunteerism.

The Peer Mentorship program was held in Wa and Tamale on September 21.

A team of 23 volunteers mentored children from the the Child Support Home Orphanage in Wa and students of the Business College International in Tamale.

Volunteers took the students through leadership skills, building self confidence, financial literacy, entrepreneurship and on reproductive health program.

The aim of the mentorship program according to the Executive Director of CAVNET Ghana, Issah Adil, was to empower girls and provide them with the skills and tools to make positive choices in order to achieve success.

Mr Adil added that the mentorship and training program is to impact lives of students and contribute to the development of communities in the two regions.

Last year, CAVNET Ghana organised a similar event to train over 250 children through its practical ICT Training at Piisi, a community in the Wa Municipality.

CAVNET Ghana also held practical ICT training for students in Wa on Saturday September 23 to introduce computers and ICT tools to students in Biihi a community in the Wa Municipality who do not have access to computers.

The Executive Director of CAVNET Ghana, Issah Adil, encouraged individuals to volunteer and contribute their quota to the development of the nation.
