Deport Marwako supervisor – MP

The Chairperson of Parliament's Gender and Children Committee, Hajia Ladi Ayamba has called for the immediate deportation of the Lebanese supervisor at the heart of the Marwako Pepper assault saga.

Hajia Ayamba, who is also the Member of Parliament for the Pusiga said, the act is despicable and justice must be served at all cost.

“It's completely unfair, unacceptable. I heard that he was arrested and later given bail. In fact such a person should not be given bail; he should be dealt with straightaway and deported,” she added.

The said supervisor, Jihad Chaaban was charged with assault on Tuesday for allegedly shoving the face of a Ghanaian worker, Evelyn Boakye in hot pepper.

Background
Jihad Chaaban is alleged to have grabbed the head of the lady and dipped her face in blended pepper.

He is also alleged to have subsequently locked her up with the burning and hurting eyes, preventing the other worried colleagues from helping her.

The lady, whose name has been withheld in an interview with Citi News, said she did not do anything wrong to provoke the attack.

“I went to work on Sunday, and while working, one of my supervisors told me to go and blend fresh pepper. So I was blending the fresh pepper and one of the white men came out and started saying that I will spoil the blender. He asked if I couldn’t see that the blender was making noise, and I told him I was blending fresh pepper”, he said.

Narrating the incident, she stated that, “he took the blender and poured the pepper out, and put my face into the blender and the pepper entered my eyes so I washed my face and the situation worsened”. She added that, the managers of the facility prevented her from going home after the incident “so that I wouldn’t report the case”.

Jihad arrested, charged
The Lebanese supervisor at the centre of the assault case has been formally been charged with assault by the Police.

He has subsequently been remanded into Police custody.

Minister orders probe by Labour Department
The Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Ignatius Baffour Awuah, has tasked the Labour Department to investigate the assault case.

The Minister has given the Labour Department a week to conclude the investigations.
