President Nana Akufo-Addo

I write to bring to the attention of the president, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo to reject the plea of former president Mahama, requesting the building meant for the nation’s vice president as his own.

Ghana has come a long way but there is less to show for it apart from the peaceful atmosphere we enjoy which I believe strongly is a divine gift from God.

How many buildings in Ghana can we boast of by saying that this particular building has hosted 7 presidents, or vice presidents, speakers of parliament or chief justices continuously?

To mention a few national monuments which keeps our pride as a nation and provides a heritage to posterity, are the polo grounds where the first president of Ghana, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah stood on the eve of independence to declare freedom for Ghana our motherland, Peduase Lodge which serves as a place of relaxation for the sitting president especially in times of leave periods, the various castles and forts, just to mention a few.

One would say that no one can claim to have any of these mentioned above, to be given to him or her as his personal property. However, national properties, irrespective of their nature, whether it generates revenue for the country or it siphons money from the nation’s money basket, continue to remain a national property.

In view of this, I raise red flags to oppose the giving of the residence meant to be occupied by the Vice President of Ghana, to be given to the erstwhile president, H. E. John Dramani Mahama.

I once upon a time heard that H.E. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo rejected an opportunity to purchase a government bungalow, stating that it is a criminal offence to acquire a property that belongs to the entire nation. I Stand for correction on Nana Addo’s rejection, be it true or otherwise.

I suppose the principle behind that is simple, if all state properties were purchased by or requested and claimed or given to leader of old, where would be the remaining national properties to serve the ever new leaders of our nation as time passes?

I guess some amount of money should be given to the former president, Mr. John Dramani Mahama to acquire a building for himself and vacate the building where he resides currently for the use of the new Vice President, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia.

I, however, want to say that the nation should find former President Mahama a suitable office space to operate from, since he is going to serve national interest and perform other international assignment which he has started already, in line with the Gambia negotiations on behalf of the president of Ghana, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo.
