Wesley Girls Senior High School in Cape Coast has allegedly refused to admit some students who were posted to the school by the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).
The students, about 200 in number, had documents of placement to buttress their claim of admission to the school but were turned down by the authorities.
Some of the students who trooped to the school with their parents to have their admissions processed were left stranded as the authorities insisted that their names were not on the list they received from the CSSPS secretariat.
A parent whom the GNA contacted but spoke on condition of anonymity, narrated how her daughter, who had aggregate 7, was posted to the school and subsequently received a text message to that effect indicating the account she was to pay the school fees into.
She paid the fees only to go to the school on Monday, October 26 with the daughter to be told that her (daughter’s) name was not on the school’s list and that she could not be admitted.
She said it was disgusting shuttling between the Western and the Central Regions every day in an attempt to get the headmistress for an explanation, but not succeeding.
Another parent also revealed to the GNA that parents and guardians had been advised by sources close to the school authorities to pay an amount of GH¢5,000.00 through an agent before their children could be offered admission.
Attempts to reach the headmistress proved futile, but Gabriel Kumasah, the assistant headmaster of the school, confirmed to GNA that some parents had come to the school with documents to prove that their daughters had been admitted.
He, however, could not indicate the total number of students admitted into the school but stated that the list had been pasted on the notice board.
But GNA checks from the notice board revealed that a total of 360 students had been admitted comprising, 152 General Science, 98 General Arts, 70 Home Economics, 30 Business and only 10 for Visual Arts.
