Gov't does not honour our invitation for negotiations – President GMA

The President of the Ghana Medical Association Dr. Kwabena Opoku Adusei has disclosed that government appears disinterested, in honouring their invitation to come to the negotiation table to resolve the 23 days old strike declared by the Association.

Speaking on Adom Tv's morning show Badwam, Dr. Opku Adusei said although government was trying hard to make unpopular, the decision by the GMA to continue the strike, the leadership of the GMA had been writing letters to government to return to the negotiation table.

Dr. Opoku Adusei alleged that the Minister of Health Sherry Ayitey and Minister of Employment and Social Welfare Nii Armah Ashitey both shunned a meeting slated for Monday.

The Ghana Medical Association hoped to have ended the problem after meeting them yesterday, yet there was no show, he said.

He accused government of showing more interest in the Supreme Court hearing than in resolving the problem.

But the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Health Tony Goodman has denied knowledge of any such meeting.

He stated the Ministry could not have honoured any meeting with the leadership of GMA yesterday because it was holding a health summit at GIMPA.

He explained that his Ministry was prepared to meet the group to resolve the problem.
