CHRAG Records 1050 Cases In Western Region

Ms Lauretta Lamptey - CHRAJ Boss The Western Regional Office of the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), recorded 1050 cases last year.

It resolved 990 cases out of the figure, with 60 of the cases still pending.

A report copied to the Ghana News Agency stated that child related abuses accounted for 39 per cent of the total cases received.

The report said abuses relating to the rights, particularly of children, stood at 343, abuse of women's rights accounted for 125 cases, property rights cases 330, while economic and social rights cases stood at 96.

The commission also recorded 44 civil and political rights cases, 36 administrative cases and three cases of corruption.

According to the report, the commission was able to contact the appropriate respondent bodies including districts assemblies, NADMO, security agencies, SSNIT, private individuals and companies, private securities, GPRTU, Ministry of Education and other such ministries.

The commission also discontinued 201 cases due to withdrawals, death or abandonment of complaint and unsuccessful mediation among others.

It also rejected 128 cases due to the lack of jurisdiction or mandate, delay in presentation by complainant, trivial complaint and lack of sufficient personal interest.
