We Are Under Pressure

Black Satellites coach Orlando Wellington has admitted that the brilliance of the previous U20 squad has placed them in a situation to deliver no matter the circumstance, in the forthcoming Africa Youth Championship in South Africa.

But the coach, who assisted Sellas Tetteh for the Africa and World Cup in Rwanda and Egypt respectively, has given the assurance that in the current squad lies equally blessed potentials to replicate the 2009 feat.

'Coming under pressure is synonymous with every human endeavour, so we have embraced it and are working hard to overcome it.

'The current team is in the best of shapes with no injuries, my only headache is the late arrival of the foreign components,' the coach said in an interview.

Coach Wellington added that 'but as I said coming under pressure is part of the job, and your ability to overcome it makes you a real man. We are armed to the teeth for the task ahead.'

Dede Ayew, Ransford Osei, Jonathan Mensah, Daniel Adjei, Joseph Addo, Bright Addae, Agyeman Badu, Dominic Adiyiah, among others won both the African and the World editions in Rwanda and Egypt respectively.

Envisaging the imminent pressure that confronts the team, president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Kwesi Nyantakyi visited the team at their training grounds where he tasked the Mahatma Otoos, Karim Alhassans and others to go the extra mile for the country.

The team left the country last Tuesday night for Nairobi, Kenya, to fine tune preparations ahead of the eight-nation African Youth Championship.

Ghana, the first African country to lift the World youth silverware, are in Group B and will open their defence against West African neighbours Nigeria and later face Cameroun and The Gambia.

The round-robin format competition will see four teams in each group battling for supremacy with group winners and runners-up picking tickets for the FIFA-organized U-20 World Cup in Colombia scheduled for  July.
